Climate Change and Health

CEHI and SENES Consultants Ltd. of Canada are implementing activities in component 7 of the Adapting to Climate Change in the Caribbean (ACCC) Project "Formulating Adaptation Strategies to Protect Human Health.

The objective of this component is to develop analytical tools, methodologies and procedures which would facilitate a more methodical and systematic identification of climate change impacts on human health so as to ensure that appropriate intervention options can be identified and implemented by authorities in the region.

Under component 7, a meeting of The Experts Advisory Group (EAG), comprising CEHI, CPACC/ACCC, CAREC, SENES, GCSI, CIMH, CCA, PAHO/CPC was convened by CEHI.

One of the main points of discussion was the need for collaboration with the CAREC/UWI Project on Dengue and climate change, given the similarities of the two projects. It was agreed that the two projects be combined to allow for maximum use of resources. Thus Component 7 should focus on the Climate Change/Human Health scenarios of:

  • Climate variability/climate change and Dengue Fever
  • Climate variability/climate change and Heat Stress.
