Call for Abstracts
The Sixth Biennial Caribbean Environmental Forum and Exhibition (CEF-6) and the 16th Annual Wider Caribbean Waste Management Conference (ReCaribe) are inviting abstracts for oral presentation for the conference to be held, May 21st to May 25th 2012, at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & the Royal Beach Casino in Frigate Bay, St. Kitts & Nevis.
CEF is the premier sustainable development and environment forum and exhibition in the Caribbean. It brings together over 250 participants from a wide and diverse cross section of professionals and other persons concerned with or involved in environmental and developmental issues in the Caribbean. Typical participants include high level Government officials and representatives from Ministries of Environment, Health, Water, Energy and Agriculture across the Caribbean. Caribbean water, waste and environmental agencies, and international and regional development agencies are also active participants. Environmental NGO's, university students and professors and the private sector are also well represented.
This year's theme is: The Green Economy: Challenges and Opportunities in Managing Health, Water, Waste, Land, Energy, Climate Change and our Natural Resources
The Green Economy concept has arisen out of the recognition that economic growth does not have to be at the expense of the environment or social equity and in essence should address issues of sustainable development. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has noted that Green Economies are geared towards“ improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. A green economy is low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive.” The theme also reflects the subject of the United Nations Rio Plus 20 Conference to be held in June of this year.
Papers for CEF- 6 are invited on the following topics:
- Green Economies
- Sustainable Consumption and Production
