RESERVATIONS CODE: ZZCEH About Jamaica Jamaica is the largest English-speaking island in the Caribbean and the third largest in the region. With a total land area of 4,442 square miles (10,991 sq. km), the island is 146 miles long with widths varying between 22 and 51 miles (35 and 82 km). Jamaica is divided into three counties, Cornwall, Middlesex and Surrey. These counties are further subdivided into parishes with Kingston, the smallest of the 14 parishes, as home to the capital city. Situated ninety miles south of Cuba and six hundred miles south of Miami, Jamaica is 18 degrees north of the equator. The terrain is very mountainous. Jamaica brims with valleys and plains to and complements these mountains. Natural rivers and springs are abound in Jamaica. Over 120 rivers flow through the land from the central mountain region to the coasts. The island of Jamaica has two international airports. Norman Manley International Airport is located in close proximity (20 minutes) to the commercial and cultural capital city of Kingston, while Sir Donald Sangster International Airport is located 3 miles east of the city of Montego Bay. You may wish to make SANGSTER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, MONTEGO BAY your final destination. Many international carriers will fly directly into either Jamaica airport, including American Airlines, Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic, and Delta though some will only land in one or the other. Non-stop flights from North America's largest cities usually take no longer than six hours to reach Jamaica, while flights from Europe average over ten hours with stops. Links to Jamaica ![]() ![]()
