EHP 1987/1 Ecological Status of Sediment Communities of Castries Harbour, St. Lucia, West Indies
Provides an ecological assessment of the macrofauna communities of the sediments of the Castries Harbour using community factors and diversity indices. Shows that while the outer harbour supports a health community, the inner section shows signs of environmental stress resulting from a variety of anthropogenic influences.

EHP 1987/2 Bacterial Pollution Monitoring in the Castries Harbour, St. Lucia, West Indies
Presents findings from bacterial pollution monitoring in the Castries Harbour over the period 1982-1984. Results indicate that levels of total coliform, faecal coliform and faecal streptococci exceed selected international standards. Suggests that the harbour may be unsuitable for recreational activity.

EHP 1991/1 Linking Water Quality Data to causes of Contamination
Discusses several mechanisms, which are critical if the move from passive monitoring to rapid quality control measures is to be achieved. The need for rapid processing of information through computerized database systems, linked to information processing and display software packages is, highlighted. Also needed is the systematic collection of information on sanitary conditions using sanitary surveys, as well as, the linking of water quality data with the sanitary survey information to establish cause and effect.

EHP 1991/2 Land-based Pollution Sources and Marine Environmental Quality in the Caribbean
Gives a summary of major land based sources of marine pollution including sewage, industrial effluents and agricultural run-off. Presents water quality data from across the region which indicate that while recreational areas are generally safe for water contact activities, bacterial densities in excess of several international criteria are consistently recorded in harbours.

EHP 1992/1 Caribbean Environmental Health Institute: its activities and role in Water and Wastewater Management in the Caribbean
Discusses projects carried out by CEHI such as the Environmental Health Improvement Project (EHIP), the Regional Sewage Studies Project and Enhancement of Coastal and Marine Environmental Monitoring Project. All of these projects emphasize the evaluation and monitoring of marine and fresh waters in the Caribbean in order to determine the best methods of remediation and mitigation of problems related to environmental pollution.

Identifies non-infectious diseases associated with inadequate water consumption and poor sanitation, as well, as infectious diseases caused by the contamination of water with bacteria, protozoa, viruses and helminths. Discusses WHO guidelines in relation to bacteriological quality, inorganic chemicals, organic chemicals and aesthetic parameters.
