CEHI provides Environmental Information and Intelligence services to a wide cross-section of Caribbean and international clients. Our traditional clientele consists of Ministries of Health, Ministries of Environment, State Agencies, Solid Waste and Water Authorities from our 16 Member States. Our information services clientele has expanded over the years to include international organizations, consultants, and private sector entities. We have also continued to assist students, teachers, community-based organisations and non-governmental organizations with their environmental information and intelligence needs.
CEHI has one of the leading environmental health and environmental management libraries in the region. Our Documentation Centre has approximately 3,000 accessions, including up to date environmental texts, standards and guidelines, reports, legislation, manuals, and conference proceedings. The Documentation Centre also houses an extensive non-print collection of CD's, videos, slides, diskettes and audiocassettes.
Numerous country specific and regional reports on environmental issues in the Caribbean are also found in the Documentation Centre, as well as CEHI-generated papers, reports, technical briefs, standards and guidelines. The Institute also subscribes to relevant online environmental journals, publications, scientific databases and news services providing current information to our clientele.
CEHI professional staff have substantial research and reporting skills. Our technical staff in the fields of engineering, chemistry, biology, ecology and natural resource management provide relevant inputs to information and intelligence requests as needed. Our information and intelligence services also complement our laboratory, training and consultancy services.
CEHI is also the focal point for a number of regional environmental health intelligence and information networks. Through these networks, the Institute has access to the technical expertise and information of senior technical officers in Ministries and State Agencies, in addition to other environmental professionals throughout the region. This translates into rapid access to accurate, high quality information and intelligence to fulfill our clients' information and intelligence needs.
Past research requests have spanned the spectrum of environmental health and environmental management issues. The Institute has provided information and intelligence services in the areas of solid, liquid and hazardous waste management, occupational health and safety, microbiology, pesticides, human health effects of specific chemicals, water resources management, climate change, food safety, environmental legislation, environmental education, natural resource management, air, water and noise pollution, vector control, and country specific environmental information.
