Waste Management - At the request of the Government of Monserrat and the UNDP, the Institute, through the GTZ Long Term Adviser, conducted an appraisal mission to look at problems of solid and liquid waste disposal in Monserrat, with respect to the volcanic situation, particularly after the evacuation. The Institute also conducted a detailed site selection exercise and EIA for a new sanitary Landfill.

The Institute trained one Ministry of Health staff member and one staff member of the Monserrat Water Authority in the "Operation and Maintenance of Waste Water Treatment Plants".

Laboratory Services - Samples of water were received from the Environmental Health Department and the Monserrat Water Authority for the determination of heavy metals and inorganic parameters. This request was to address the concern of the possible influence of volcanic activity on the island on the quality of the water supply catchments.

Environmental Monitoring - Equipment for water quality testing purchased through the CEHI/ENCORE Project was shipped to the Monserrat Water Authority
