Overview |
| The population of the Turks
and Caicos is around 17,502 (July 2000 est.). The country’s economy is
based mostly on tourism. Offshore financial services and fishing are
also important sectors. The labour force is 4,848 (1990 est.), 33% of
which is in Government services and 20% in agriculture and fishing
(World Factbook 2000).
The Labour Department under the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Prisons and Welfare conducts workplace inspections. The National Insurance Scheme, introduced in 1992, provides payments for occupational accidents. The Environmental Health Department is responsible for chemical safety |
