British Virgin Islands

Overview

The population of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) is around 19,615 (July 2000 est.), with a labour force of 8,995 (1991 figures). Major industries in the country include tourism, light industry and offshore financial services. Approximately 21% of the labour force is in the hotel and restaurant industry with 14% in the construction sector.

The Social Security Board provides payments for employment injury. The Labour Department administers the Factories Act and the Labour Code
